Report on the new Global Initiative on Ageing

The Deputy Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)Nikhil Seth; the representative of the Global Initiative on Ageing (GIA), Ambassador Luis Gallegos; the mayor of the city of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre Prados; the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, Mohammed Al Jarwan; and the Vice-Rector for Studies of the University of Malaga, Ernesto Pimentel Sánchez, presented this morning the report on the new Global Initiative on Ageing, a work carried out by the GIA Foundation to clarify all the concepts linked to this phenomenon around the world.
In fact, the Main Objective of the Global Initiative on Ageing Foundation is to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities that the ageing of the population brings to a society, and to develop the capacities and skills of policy makers, governments, civil society, academia and the media, on public policies, best practices and lessons learned from governments specialized in this field. The report is available on the www.cifalmalaga.org website.
The GIA Foundation seeks to become a global knowledge hub on ageing, exploring changes in the long-term economic, social and geopolitical implications of this demographic, while providing support and coordination to create a cadre of professionals capable of dealing with the new governance model of society’s ageing, promoting global coordination mechanisms. In addition, the foundation will research and study the phenomena of ageing around the world, in order to design and deliver global training, strengthening capacities on issues related to active ageing. #envejecimiento #salud #derechoshumanos #informe
